Swari Headrest DVD Player With Games

The Swari HRTV7G 7″ Headrest DVD Player is a value for money product and is certainly not a bad choice because it offers a lot without taking away too much. The package has two wide-screen 7-inch TFT LCD displays (480 x 234) and you also have your standard DVD player, A/V ports and the cable, an IR/FM transmitter, a game jack, adjusting pole, AC adapters, the manual and of course two remote control units. What you get in addition with all this are two video game controllers, about three hundred basic games as well as two wireless headsets. The car entertainment system also has built-in stereo speakers for loud music playback features. However, how well all of this fits together is something that we will discuss now.

A problem that has been noticed with the Swari HRTV7G is that some have found it difficult to raise the displays once they were mounted at the back of the seats. The reported problem is that the apparatus used to hold the display in place once it has been raised, does not function as it is supposed to. Another problem with the Swari HRTV7G that some buyers have noticed is that of interference. In spite of the good quality of the FM radio and the delightful ability to watch two different movies simultaneously, interference becomes an issue because if you use one display to transmit, you cannot enjoy something else on the other display with the headphones on, as you would be getting significant interference. Similar problems regarding interference issues were cited if both the displays were put on the same channel, but thankfully, the disturbance was restricted to audio only because the picture quality was good throughout.

The two 7-inch screens are quite good with their vibrant and bright displays, but at times, you may find yourself wishing that the viewing angles were a bit better on the TFT screens. The two accompanying headsets are quite good actually and apart from providing decent sound quality, they also fit comfortably on your head without bothering you too much for a substantial amount of time. Included games are definitely not up to the standard of modern consoles, but they might actually help you kill off some time while you are on a particularly long trip and more importantly, it will help your kids stay busy on them during such trips. The built-in speakers get the job done, but if they are not enough then you always have the option of connecting it to external speakers in your car via USB, if you have any. The remote controllers offer you a wide variety of choices to configure your audio and video output, and sometimes it is really confusing. The remotes feel kind of cheap though, which is contrasting to the feel of the other parts of the set, which feel solid and well made. Perhaps the best part of the Swari HRTV7G 7″ Headrest DVD Player is that it can literally play all formats (DivX, MPEG2, MP3, WMA etc) without a halt and that is a real boon. As it was mentioned at the beginning of the review, Swari HRTV7G is a solid headrest DVD player in spite of its few flaws simply because it offers more than most others at this price range.

This headrest DVD player is available in black, grey and tan colors.

Pyle PL71PHB Headrest Pair with Built-in 7″ TFT-LCD Monitors

Pyle PL71PHB Headrest Pair with Built-in 7-Inch TFT-LCD Monitors

The PL71PHB is one of those products that surprise you in a good way. After all what you pay for is what you should expect and the PL71PHB headrest displays does not come short of such expectations by any means. What you get in the box are two 7-inch TFT LCD monitors (1440 x 234 at 16:9 aspect ratio), a manual, the connection cables and a wireless infrared remote control unit. This may not be the most packed box available at the market but it has what you need to get started. The inclusion of a DVD player would have been nice and could have made the entire set more complete, but that also would have meant an increased price tag. While the PL71PHB headrest displays are perfect for pairing with an external DVD player, it may not be the first choice of someone who is looking for a combo car entertainment solution rather than buying them separately.

The first thing that you will probably notice is that the parts of the Pyle PL71PHB does not at all look or feel cheap and given the price you pay for the product, that is a pleasant surprise. In addition to this, it is also easy to install by yourself even if you are just a basic level tool handler. Once you finish your installation and plug the cables in, you will be happy to see that not only is the picture quite sharp and vivid, it is also free of interference issues even when you play the same content from a single DVD player at the same time on both the screens. Audio quality from the speakers is the same as you would expect from them, which is just not satisfactory. However, you can easily jack it to an external speaker set to give audio the kick you want. While using IR headphones it was found that the audio is quite clear, but it is not possible for you to transmit two different audio signals to two separate IR headphones simultaneously.

The headrest functionality of the device isn’t really good as the headrest seems to easily sway back when you actually rest your head on it and that could be a bit of a hindrance for some but not all because depending on the height of the person, it may not be much of an issue. You would need to wire the PL71PHB directly to your car’s power supply as the box does not include an adapter, but then again buying one is cheap if you really need it. Perhaps the only thing that might make you a little restless is the included manual as the instructions and information are ill-written in bad English. However, that is not much of a problem as it is easy enough for you to figure out on your own or if it seems too complicated, then you can always call someone with a little bit more know-how. Overall, the black PL71PHB headrest displays will surely impress anyone with its build quality, picture quality and ease of use. If your car has a black interior, then you can expect it to blend in perfectly. Although it has its chinks, it’s still a value for money product.

Concept CLD-700 Headrest Monitor with Built-in DVD Player

Concept CLD-700 7-Inch Chameleon Headrest Monitor with Built-in DVD Player

The CLD-700 from Concept can easily be considered as one of the best car headrest DVD players within the budget. Straight out of the box you will get a 7-inch TFT LED LCD headrest screen with a built-in DVD player, three interchangeable covers (gray, black and tan), adjustable posts, the remote control unit and connection cables (12V car cable and AV cable). The best part about the CLD-700 is that it remains true to the term “Chameleon” because it is almost impossible for people to notice unless they already know about it or if the monitor is on. This of course will help you to avoid unwanted attention from potential thieves. The interchangeable covers also provide you with the option of changing the color of the headrest to match the interior of your car. Cables included in the box are enough to get you started and the wiring is relatively easy as well. Overall, if you have the basic knowledge about electronics, then you would not need anyone else to install the whole apparatus in spite of the somewhat dubious manual, just make sure that the connections are properly taped for security reasons.

The DVD player was able to play most formats that were tried on it quite easily and in addition to that, you can also connect USB/SD devices to play media directly from your hard drive. Since the device auto detects media files from external storage devices and folder selection is not supported, you would need to make sure that your target media files are not located under too many folders and sub-folders because the player may not be able to find it in that case. The IR works well and the sound quality was satisfactory when coupled with an IR headphone. The included speakers are good as well, but it is best if you connect the CLD-700 to external speakers to truly enjoy advanced sound effects from 5.1 DVDs. It should be mentioned though, that a few complaints were heard from certain customers regarding the DVD player’s audio/FM capabilities. It seems that in certain units, the static interference is not only existent, but is often very loud, especially when starting for the first time. However, others have reported that the FM transmitter works great, while the sound output even has a cinematic effect. Quality of picture on the 7″ screen is clear, sharp and bright enough to impress most of us after considering the price of the product; No problem was experienced or heard from customers regarding the picture quality.

The supplied remote control is an apt unit that lets you control your media effectively and with ease. Everything about the Concept CLD-700 Chameleon looks neat, feels well made and functions as it’s supposed to. What this means is that if you choose this product then you will probably like it very much and even if certain small things fail to keep up to your expectations, just consider the price and the chances are that those shortcomings will start to seem microscopic.

Power Acoustik HDVD-9BG 8.8″ Universal Headrest Monitors

Power Acoustik HDVD-9BG Universal Headrest Monitors

The Power Acoustik HDVD-9BG was simply an awesome product to review. There are so few flaws in it that it is an easy recommendation over any other product in the category. The loaded package contains a couple of 8.8-inch touchscreen LCD headrest displays with built-in DVD players, adjustable poles, two wireless headphones, two remote control units and the connection cables. At 8.8 inches, the HDVD-9BG has slightly bigger screens which actually look a lot bigger than the standard 7-inch car headrest monitors. You will clearly notice the difference in size if you are accustomed to the 7″ screens. Movies look impressive in 1440 x 234 resolution at 16:9 ratio as the pictures are bright, clear and vivid with better viewing angles than most other car headrest screens. Moreover, you will also get to choose from modes such as Cinema, Full Screen, Wide Screen, etc to suit your convenience. Something that really managed to impress is the Power Acoustik HDVD-9BG managed to play all common DVD formats that we tried to play on it including DivX, quite easily.

An interesting feature in the HDVD-9BG is the inclusion of a touchscreen display to grant you a more “hands-on” control. As it turned out, the touchscreen does its job quite well. No problems were encountered while using it, other than the ensuing finger prints of course. It is possible to operate all functions of the remote via the touchscreen except unfortunately, the DVD options. The remotes are quite good too and they pretty much allow you to tinker with enough options for personal customization of display and sound, should you be interested. Installation is as easy as it can be because running the wires through the seats is pretty much all you need to do apart from fixing the headrest. The inclusion of a 12V adapter is something that we expected but did not get in the box, but that is hardly an issue as you can pick one up for less than ten dollars if you want to avoid wiring it directly.

The two headrest DVD players are completely independent of each other (separate video/audio input/output) so it is possible for you to watch two different movies at the same time or listen to the FM on one while playing a movie on the other. Interference was never an issue throughout the time it was used, even when the wireless headphones were tried out. In fact, the quality on the headphones was equally impressive. It should be pointed out here that should you be experiencing poor performance, take the help of a professional as wrong or inadequate installation is often responsible for that. The DVD players are better than any that we have yet reviewed because not only are they absolutely quiet; they also remained surprisingly cool even after prolonged use. Add all of these positives to a product that also looks and feels premium and you have got the Power Acoustik HDVD-9BG headrest DVD players.

This product is available in beige, black, gray and dark gray colors.

    Product features:
  • Pair of headrest DVD/Multimedia systems with 8.8-inch touchscreen
  • Poles adjust from 4 to 8.5 inches to fit most vehicles

  • A/V input/output, USB port, SD Card slot

Philips PD9016/37 9″ Portable LCD Dual DVD player

Philips PD9016/37 Portable LCD Dual DVD player

The most likeable thing about the Philips PD9016/37 is that it rids you of the trouble of managing multiple connection cables within the small space of your car. All you need is one cable (supplied) to connect the two DVD players and you are set to go. Apart from the two car DVD players with attached 9 inch LCD displays and the connection cable to join them together, you will also get a car adapter and a mounting strap. Unlike headrest DVD players, the PD9016/37 does not come with an attached headrest, but is rather designed to be strapped around your seat to any height or place comfortable for your viewers. What this does is that it makes installing the two DVD players so easy that you would not need any external help at all to do it. Once you are done with the installation, they will look quite elegant, especially if you have the appropriate interior to match the glossy black color of the bezels. The DVD players were more than just capable as they not only managed to play all common DVD and CD formats, (including picture formats), they managed to display the media beautifully on its bright and vivid 9″ screens. The picture quality however will degrade if you use the single connection cable to attach the two DVD players together in order to watch the same content on both the screens simultaneously. The unit playing the DVD will show a significantly better picture than the attached unit, as is always the case with analog signals. In addition to this, it was also felt that the connection cable was too short, particularly for larger cars where you might want to have a different set up than the obvious side by side set up. The reason for the short length of the cable is once again its analog nature. It would have been really pleasing if we saw an HDMI connectivity option than a short analog cable. Having said all that, the depreciation is not significant enough to be noticed by young children and even when noticed; it might not really matter to most. As individual DVD players, the Philips PD9016/37 gives you the option of watching two different contents simultaneously at high quality.

The in-built stereo speakers are not ideal and it is recommended that you use external speakers if you want to enjoy a quality sound effect, but they are not unusable either. We expected IR wireless headphone support but did not find any unfortunately. You do have the option of connecting your own headphones to each of the unit via the 3.5 mm jack though. It was found that the devices can also support iPod connectivity as well and that is indeed a nice option to have onboard. The only thing that can really annoy users is the fact that it does not have a remote control unit! Although the control buttons are well placed and DVD menus are quite easy to handle with them, not including a remote was still a surprising decision by Philips.

    Product features:
  • The color LCD display brings images to life, showing off your treasured photos, favorite movies and music.
  • No additional cables are needed, there is no mess created and installation takes a few seconds.
  • The single cable connection design means there is just one cable needed to connect the two Philips Portable DVD players together.
  • The in-car dual player design lets you watch movies individually on each portable DVD player.
  • Real life’ rich detail and vibrant colors as high quality prints.
